"The course should have been called "St Churchill Walks on Water". With that more-accurate title, I would have felt warned. No one is perfect but Professor Fears seems to think Churchill was. I want facts and analysis, not praise and glorification. It's irritating to feel like I didn't learn anything for the time spent listening."

"I watch the lectures while I exercise on a treadmill. In his presentation, the instructor varies the volume of his voice a lot. That was a problem for me because of my treadmill motor. I spent a lot of time adjusting the volume.

Otherwise, lectures were interesting, and instructor seemed to be knowledgable."

First Disappointment with Teaching Company product Date: September 9, 2009
"This was an unusually cursory and light treatment of an otherwise rich topic. This does not compare to ANY college level history course I have taken, as it made little attempt to root its analysis in primary sources and was filled with assertion-in-place of cited fact. Worse, there were numerous instances where opinion was presented as fact. I typically find TC courses to be of decent academic quality – this was the first course I purchased that feel far short. If a flippant treatment of general knowledge is what you seek, this course will suffice. If, however, you are seeking a more thoughtful and researched review of the topic, please look elsewhere."

"I have a great admiration for the teaching company because of its willingness to release academic courses to the wider public but i this one was a mistake. this guy isn't even a British or Modern European specialist. This course is very outdated (the long dead great men theory of history) and the nature of the field has advanced far beyond what is being said here, its as if this course was made in the 1950s. Fears has nothing bad to say about Churchill and I do not shy away in saying this is blatant hagiography. Churchill was a blatant imperialist fighting to save a dying empire which had wrought great misery on the world. As for the misery Fears has little to say about the butchery in Greece, Iraq, Ireland, the bungling in India ect...that Churchill was responsible for. And in spite of all of Fears' blabbing to the contrary Churchill was something of a failure. He did not and could not save the empire, Britain under his watch became a lap dog of the United States which it remains to this day. The material aside the presentation is awful, Fears hs a high pitched sing-song voice that is VERY annoying. So much so that at times i just had to turn it off. Avoid it."
